Castello di Grumello is a medieval estate set among the hills of Valcalepio, between Bergamo and Lake Iseo. Built around the year 1000 as a strategic fortress, it later became a noble residence and an agricultural center, preserving a deep connection with the landscape and its productive vocation. Today, the Castello is a wine estate that interprets tradition through a contemporary lens, combining agricultural rigor, entrepreneurial vision and care for the ecosystem.

Viticulture lies at the heart of the project, with a clear Bordeaux-inspired identity. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot represent one of the most significant historical vineyard heritages in the Bergamo area. Alongside this tradition, the estate is committed to safeguarding what was once at risk of disappearing, such as Merera, a rare native grape variety from Bergamo, recovered and now bottled exclusively by the estate. This approach is complemented by the cultivation of PIWI resistant grape varieties, reflecting a thoughtful and responsible approach to farming.

The estate functions as a diversified agricultural ecosystem. In addition to wine, it produces a limited quantity of extra virgin olive oil and cultivates a small yet valuable production of citrus fruits, mainly supplied to fine-dining restaurants in the Bergamo area. Agronomic practices focus on tangible sustainability, including integrated pest management, cover crops, soil protection, forest stewardship, agroforestry projects and an innovative system for rainwater management across the property.

Among the most recent developments is Vigna Drezza Extra Brut, a traditional method sparkling wine produced in Pontida, another valley in the Bergamo region. This project further expands the estate’s vision, exploring sparkling wine as a measured and coherent expression of place.

Open to visitors by appointment, Castello di Grumello is today a place of production, discovery and storytelling. The estate offers a range of wine tourism experiences, from relaxed tastings and guided visits to the vineyards, to full-day activities such as trekking and cycling, always rooted in an enotourism perspective.
